The project is situated in Jali, one of the most pristine bays dotted along the coastline of the Albanian Riviera. When designing this new resort on Albania’s Mediterranean southern coast, Oppenheim Architecture studied, distilled, and evolved the local architectural heritage and spirit to create a sympathetic and timeless response. The project embraces the rich vernacular and site ecologies found on the site and in the nearby villages of Vuno and Dhermi.
By grounding itself in Jali, the project aims to achieve a sensitivity towards man and nature, harmonising with its context. Each space in the project is crafted with a sensitivity for moments of drama, whether reflecting the sea or looking towards secret gardens and pools.
Simple architectural geometry frames nature and provides a quiet contrast with the view beyond. The project uses a sincere understating of scale, detail, and materiality to gain planning approval in an area of outstanding natural beauty.
With approximately 120 apartments and 23 villas, the complex is designed as a small village of low-rise buildings, assembled to create a sense of community. The result is an artful choreography of tightly clustered buildings, generous communal spaces, and local materials in a sensitive reinterpretation of the traditional Albanian coastal town.
